Rohan M. Ganapathy studied aeronautical engineering in Coimbatore. He visited NASA in the United States and learned about the idea of using electricity to propel satellites. He was awarded a ₹20 lakh grant by JSW Steel to develop an electric thruster known as the microwave plasma thruster. In 2015, he and Yashas Karanam co-founded Bellatrix.

Yashas Karanam, an electrical engineering student, and Rohan M. Ganapathy co-founded Bellatrix in 2015.

Bellatrix Aerospace

Bellatrix Aerospace is based in Bengaluru, India, and was founded in 2015 by Rohan M. Ganapathy and Yashas Karanam. The company develops rocket and propulsion technologies and has a development contract with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). In June 2019, the company raised $3 million in pre-series A funding, and in June 2022, it raised $8 million in Series A funding.

Innovative rocket and propulsion technology is being developed by Bellatrix Aerospace, a startup in space technology. The Bengaluru-based business was started in 2015 by Yashas Karanam and Rohan M. Ganapathy. Bellatrix has received funding from several investors and is under contract for development with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

The possibility for revolutionising satellite propulsion lies in the microwave plasma thruster technology developed by the business. Bellatrix differs from other space industry companies in that it works with ISRO to develop technology and commercial products. Bellatrix Aerospace is well-positioned to make a substantial contribution to India’s expanding space economy because of its cutting-edge technologies and cooperative business model.
