The program’s eligibility requirements include being 24 years of age or younger, having graduated from high school at least four years ago, not having played American football at a US college, speaking English fluently, not being a citizen of the US or Canada, and being able to travel to the US for two months starting the first week in March.
Players that sign through the IPPP are subject to special rules set forth by the NFL. Each IPP player is assigned to a team, and those teams are permitted to have 91 players on their rosters during the off-season—one more than the teams not taking part in the IPO that year. These rosters must be reduced to 53 by the conclusion of the preseason, and the participating teams will have to determine the status of their IPP players.
Eight players were added to NFL rosters in 2023 due to the IPP. Six players from Nigeria, one from Australia, and one from France were among them. At this year’s NFL International Combine in London, England, thirteen gifted young athletes received invitations to the 2023 IPP program.
Ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft, the 2023 IPP cohort had the chance to demonstrate their skills in front of NFL club scouts at a pro day at the University of South Florida after spending ten weeks at an intense training camp at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
