Childhood:
Born in Ulm, Württemberg, Germany on March 14, 1879. Parents were secular middle-class Jews, Hermann and Pauline Koch Einstein. Has a sister, Maria (Maja), who was born two years later.An early interest in science and mathematics. Moved to Munich, Italy, and finally Aarau, Switzerland for education
Education:
1896 saw the student enrol in the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich. He received training as a physics and mathematics teacher. In 1901, he became a citizen of Switzerland. In 1905, he earned his doctorate.
Career:
Developed the special and general theories of relativity. won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921. worked at the Swiss Patent Office in Bern. produced ground-breaking work, including four articles in 1905. became a professor at several universities, including Zurich, Prague, and Berlin. immigrated to the United States in 1933 and joined Princeton University as a professor.
Personal Life:
Hailed from a musical family. They married Mileva Maric in 1903 and had two boys, Hans Albert and Eduard. Divorced Mileva in 1919 and wed Elsa Löwenthal the same year. Was a fervent supporter of women’s rights, civil rights, and peace.
Legacy:
Known as one of the most influential scientists of the 20th century, he theorised the well-known equation E=mc2. He made significant contributions to the advancement of nuclear physics and quantum theory. He was a member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the Royal Society. He passed away in Princeton, New Jersey, on April 18, 1955.
