Honda released the world’s first level 3 self-driving vehicle
Honda Motor unveils a replacement car with the world’s first approved level 3 autonomous driving systems, clearing the trail for the auto industry to build up attempts to commercialize such automation for passenger vehicles.
In November, Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism authorized the new model’s holdup Pilot system. It can help drivers avoid being stuck in congested traffic on a highway by travelling but 50 kilometers per hour.
Using data from high-definition maps and external sensors, the system automatically accelerates, brakes, and steers while monitoring the vehicle’s surroundings.
Meanwhile, the driving force can use the navigation screen to enjoy the car’s infotainment but must answer the system’s involve a handover when the vehicle accelerates after the holdup clears.
